About the Avaya Tax Team

Manages a diverse range of complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all or specifically assigned tax returns and related reports. This is the most senior skill level without supervisory responsibility. Job may provide functional advice or training to less experienced tax accountants. Work is performed with minimal direction and reviewed by senior management.
About You

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, demonstrate sound judgment and have the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with people at all levels inside and outside Avaya. The ideal candidate will already have a strong background in US indirect taxes. The candidate also needs to have flexibility in order to have some work time overlap with UK and New Jersey tax team members
Core skills & experience:
Strong written and oral communication skills - business English is a must
Organized, analytical and a team player
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Ability to prioritize, problem solve, make recommendations and implement solutions
US Indirect tax practical and technical tax expertise (2-5+ years of experience preferred)
Experience with automation of tax processes (a plus)
College degree in Finance/Accounting related discipline, Chartered Accountant, ADIT, Certified Public Accountant or similar (preferred); Additional years of work experience may be considered in lieu
Experience with SAP/HFM/Alteryx/ Vertex/Avalara (a plus)
Strong understanding of US Indirect tax principles
About the Role
------------------
This is an integral role, with the key focus on ensuring that Avaya's US legal entities comply with their US Property Tax, US Business License and US Regulatory Tax requirements
Core responsibilities
US Property Taxes (25%):
Responsible for all US Property Tax matters (including: compliance, documentation, audit defense, & reserve analysis)
Manage outsourced US Property tax compliance process and co-ordinate review & filing of all US Property tax returns
Aggregation of data / inputs required for above US Property Tax compliance
Develop, maintain, implement and improve processes, policies and guidelines to manage Property Tax risks & compliance.
Support on US Property Tax audits, including provision of data and determination of post audit risk management actions.
Approval of payments related to US Property Tax filings
Ensure full and timely utilization of refunds, to manage cash taxes
Manage the Company's US Property Tax reconciliations on a quarterly basis
Liaison with external US Property Tax advisors
US Business Licenses (25%):
Responsible for all US Business License matters (including compliance and documentation)
Manage outsourced Business License compliance process and co-ordinate review & filing of all US Business Licenses
Aggregation of data / inputs required for above US Business License filing
Develop, maintain, implement and improve processes, policies and guidelines to manage Business License risks & compliance.
Approval of payments related to US Business License filings
Liaison with external US Business License advisors
US Regulatory Taxes (20%)
Responsible for all US Telco Regulatory Tax matters (including: compliance, documentation, & reserve analysis)
Manage outsourced US Regulatory Tax compliance process and co-ordinate review & filing of all US Telco Regulatory tax filings
Aggregation of data / inputs required for above US Telco Regulatory filings
Approval of payments related to US Regulatory filings
Manage the Company's US Regulatory fees reconciliations on a quarterly basis
Ad-hoc liaison with external US Regulatory advisors
Other responsibilities (320%)
Drive efficiency and simplicity into Avaya's US indirect tax compliance, including through standardization, simplification, & documentation of processes and utilization of technology
Assist with other ad-hoc matters, including; other US or Global Tax Compliance areas, cash tax management, business support, corporate project support.
