About Avaya's Tax Team

Avaya's tax team is based in the USA (NJ), UK, and India, with an excellent reputation across the organization. The tax team works closely with the controllership team, as well as other core functions. As part of a small & friendly tax team, you will have the ability to 'make a difference' and support the business to enable execution of Avaya's strategic growth plans.
About the Role
------------------
This is an integral role, with the key focus on ensuring that Avaya's US legal entities comply with their Sales and Use Tax requirements
Core responsibilities (90%):
Responsible for all US Sales & Use tax matters (including: compliance, documentation, audit defense, & reserve analysis)
Manage outsourced US Sales & Use tax compliance process and co-ordinate review & filing of all US Sale & Use tax returns
Aggregation of data / inputs required for above US Sales & Use compliance
Develop, maintain, implement and improve processes, policies and guidelines to manage indirect tax risks & compliance.
Support on US Sales & Use tax audits, including provision of data and determination of post audit risk management actions.
Management of the US Sales & Use tax exemption certificate processes (work undertaken by Avaya Customer Master Data team)
Ensure full and timely utilization of tax credits and refunds, to manage cash taxes
Manage the Company's US Sales & Use reconciliations on a quarterly basis
Approval of payments related to indirect tax filings
Support indirect tax technology changes (including Vertex)
Assist Indirect Senior Tax Manager with providing business support on indirect tax matters (e.g. new commercial structures, taxation of new offerings, customer/supplier queries).
Liaison with external US Sales & Use tax advisors
Other responsibilities (10%)
Drive efficiency and simplicity into Avaya's US Sales & Use tax compliance, including through standardization, simplification, & documentation of processes and utilization of technology
Assist with other ad-hoc matters, including; cash tax management, business support, corporate project support.
About You

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, demonstrate sound judgment and have the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with people at all levels inside and outside Avaya. The ideal candidate will already have a strong background in US Sales & Use taxes. The candidate also needs to have flexibility in order to have some work time overlap with UK and New Jersey tax team members
Core skills & experience:
Strong written and oral communication skills - business English is a must
Organized, analytical and a team player
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Ability to prioritize, problem solve, make recommendations and implement solutions
US Sales & Use tax practical and technical tax expertise (2-5+ years of experience preferred)
Experience with automation of tax processes (a plus)
College degree in Finance/Accounting related discipline, Chartered Accountant, ADIT, Certified Public Accountant or similar (preferred); Additional years of work experience may be considered in lieu
Experience with SAP/HFM/Alteryx/ Vertex (a plus)
Strong understanding of US Sales & Use tax principles
