Job Summary:

A master cutter job description involves interpreting designs and cutting fabric

accurately, minimising fabric waste, supervising the garment construction process,

and ensuring high-quality standards for clothing production.

Core responsibilities-

Pattern and fabric work:

Read design sketches and measurements to create

and cut patterns. Spread fabric, mark designs, and cut patterns using

appropriate tools, minimizing fabric waste.

Garment construction:

Supervise and guide other tailors to ensure the cut

pieces are sewn correctly according to the design and standards. This can

include stitching, finishing, and overseeing the entire making of garments.

Quality control:

Perform quality checks on finished garments and correct any

cutting-related issues to ensure proper fit and form.

Fitting and alterations:

Fit garments on customers, mark necessary

alterations, and supervise the adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

Essential skills and qualifications-

Technical skills:

Proficient in using scissors, electric knives, or

computer-controlled cutting machines. Expertise in various fabric types and

their nuances is crucial.

Design knowledge:

Ability to read and interpret technical sketches and

understand garment construction methods.

Manual dexterity:

Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and

precision are necessary for accurate cutting and stitching.

Leadership and communication:

Strong communication skills to collaborate

with designers, production managers, and tailors. The ability to supervise a

team is key for a leadership position.

Attention to detail:

Exceptional attention to detail to ensure every seam,

lapel, and cut is precise and elevates the final product.
