Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Conducting Field Surveys:

Using specialized equipment like total stations, GPS, and digital levels to measure distances, angles, and elevations of the land surface.

Data Collection and Analysis:

Gathering precise spatial data on existing topography, land boundaries, utilities, and natural/man-made features of the site.

Research and Documentation:

Examining historical land records, existing maps, deeds, and titles to verify data and ensure legal compliance with property and zoning laws.

Site Layout and Staking:

Marking the exact location of proposed construction elements (e.g., centerlines, grading, drainage features, and utilities) using stakes and reference points to guide the construction teams.

Map and Report Preparation:

Using computer-aided design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software to create detailed maps, plans, charts, and reports based on survey data.

Monitoring and Quality Control:

Regularly checking the site during construction to verify that the work is progressing according to the design specifications and addressing any discrepancies or unexpected site conditions.

Collaboration and Communication:

Working with project managers, civil engineers, contractors, and government agencies to provide crucial survey information and clarify design requirements.

Equipment Maintenance:

Calibrating and maintaining surveying instruments to ensure accuracy and functionality.
Essential Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with surveying instruments (total stations, GPS, levels) and software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS).

Mathematical Aptitude:

Strong analytical and mathematical skills to perform complex calculations and interpret data accurately.

Problem-Solving:

Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies between plans and actual site conditions.

Attention to Detail:

Meticulous precision is crucial due to the legal and structural implications of the work.

Physical Stamina:

The role often requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and walking over rugged terrain.

Communication:

Effective verbal and written communication skills to provide clear instructions to field teams and present findings to stakeholders.
