The Civil Surveyor is responsible for conducting land surveys, collecting field data, and preparing precise measurements used for engineering, construction, and land development projects. This role ensures that project layouts, boundaries, and elevations are accurately established and documented in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform field surveys including topographic, boundary, control, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
Operate survey instruments such as total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, digital levels, and data collectors.
Collect, analyze, and process field data using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, etc.).
Establish horizontal and vertical control points for construction and design activities.
Interpret engineering plans, site drawings, and project specifications to ensure accurate field layout.
Prepare survey reports, maps, and documentation required for project planning and approvals.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to support project workflows.
Identify and resolve discrepancies in survey data, site conditions, and project plans.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and surveying best practices.
Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot survey instruments and equipment.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Surveyor or Civil Survey Technician (experience requirement can be adjusted).
Strong understanding of surveying principles, land measurement techniques, and engineering drawings.
Proficiency with survey equipment: GPS/GNSS, total station, auto-levels, laser scanners (as applicable).
Working knowledge of CAD and survey processing software.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work outdoors in various terrain and weather conditions.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Valid driver's license (if required by employer).
Preferred Skills (Optional)
Experience with drone/ UAV surveying and GIS platforms.
Knowledge of local land-use regulations and permitting processes.
Professional licensure or certification (e.g., RPLS, PLS, CST, Licensed Surveyor) depending on region.
Working Conditions
Fieldwork and office work split depending on project stage.
Exposure to outdoor elements, construction sites, and varied terrain.
May require travel to multiple project locations.
