The Surgical Oncologist is responsible for diagnosing, staging, and surgically treating cancer patients. The role involves performing oncologic surgeries, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring comprehensive patient care before, during, and after surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed patient evaluations, diagnostic tests, and biopsies.
Plan and perform complex oncologic surgeries (e.g., breast, gastrointestinal, thoracic, or head & neck).
Collaborate with medical and radiation oncologists for integrated treatment plans.
Manage post-operative care, monitor recovery, and address complications.
Participate in tumor boards and case discussions for treatment planning.
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with hospital protocols.
Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
Stay updated with advancements in surgical oncology and participate in clinical research.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
M.B.B.S. with M.S./D.N.B. in General Surgery and M.Ch./D.N.B. in Surgical Oncology.
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Surgical Oncologist (depending on hospital level).
Skills:
Expertise in oncologic surgical techniques
Strong diagnostic and decision-making abilities
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
