Job Description

A support worker provides assistance and care to individuals who need help with daily living activities, enabling them to live as independently as possible. This role can involve a wide range of tasks, from personal care and household duties to supporting social and recreational activities. Support workers also play a crucial role in promoting mental wellbeing and helping individuals connect with their community. Key Responsibilities of a Support Worker:

Personal Care:

Assisting with tasks like bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating, ensuring hygiene and comfort.

Daily Living Skills:

Helping individuals with tasks such as meal preparation, laundry, shopping, budgeting, and managing finances.

Health and Wellbeing:

Supporting individuals with medication management, attending medical appointments, and monitoring their overall health.

Social and Recreational Activities:

Encouraging participation in hobbies, social outings, and community events, promoting social inclusion and engagement.

Emotional Support:

Providing a listening ear, offering encouragement, and helping individuals manage their emotions and build confidence.

Advocacy:

Representing the needs and rights of the individuals they support, ensuring their voices are heard and their choices are respected.

Record Keeping:

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of support provided, progress made, and any relevant observations.

Collaboration:

Working with other healthcare professionals, families, and caregivers to ensure a coordinated approach to support.

Promoting Independence:

Fostering independence and self-reliance by encouraging individuals to make choices, develop new skills, and participate in activities that interest them.
