Key Responsibilities:
Provide innovative leadership and effective administration of the English department, its staff and resources.
Prepare an annual budget and administer resources and expenses within that budget.
Participate in HOD meetings and provide advice to the Principal.
Provide the Principal and school management with an annual departmental management plan and departmental report.
Regularly review departmental policy and practices to ensure that they are being effective, as well as sharing and developing ideas.
Lead the department, inducting, developing, deploying, motivating and appraising staff to ensure that they have clear expectations of their roles, and that high standards are achieved and maintained.
Use data and critical thinking to exemplify first class teaching skills to inspire other teachers in the department.
Ensure that a suitable learning environment is maintained throughout the department including recommendations of PD programs that are needed.
Be proactive in identifying training needs within the department, ensuring that they are appropriately met, and that all members of the department are active in their own professional development.
Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive, courteous relations with students, parents and colleagues.
Engage actively in the performance review process.
Lead the department's contribution to marketing and external events and visitors.
Inspect lesson plans and provide advice to department teachers on improving quality.
Observe lessons on a regular basis to evaluate the quality of teaching and to identify and promote good practice.
Aid the curriculum team with designing and implementing a high quality, relevant curriculum for the subject.
Qualifications & Skills:
Postgraduate degree in English Language or Literature.
Comfortable with educational technology.
Openness to experiment with innovative pedagogy and instruction.
Empathy and love for children, motivated to work with students from a low-income backgrounds.
Understanding of differentiated, project-based learning.
Experience with working in the social sector.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, teachers and others.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
