Job Summary:
The Student Counselor will provide emotional, academic, and career guidance to engineering students aged 17-22. The role focuses on supporting students in managing stress, improving academic performance, resolving personal or interpersonal issues, and planning their career paths. The counselor will help create a positive, supportive campus environment that promotes student well-being and success.
Key Responsibilities:1. Personal & Emotional Counseling
Provide confidential counseling sessions for students dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, homesickness, or adjustment issues.
Conduct workshops on mental health, stress management, and emotional intelligence.
Identify students in distress and refer them to professional mental health services when needed.
2. Academic & Behavioral Support
Guide students in developing effective study habits, time management, and motivation.
Support students facing academic challenges or backlogs through counseling and follow-up plans.
Collaborate with faculty to address behavioral, attendance, or performance issues.
3. Career & Life Guidance
Assist students in exploring career options, setting goals, and preparing for placements or higher studies.
Conduct sessions on personality development and communication skills.
Coordinate with the Training & Placement Cell for pre-placement readiness programs.
4. Student Engagement & Outreach
Organize group sessions, peer support programs, and orientation activities.
Promote mental health awareness and student wellness initiatives.
Maintain an approachable and trustworthy presence on campus.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions.
Prepare periodic reports and monitor student progress.
Evaluate and improve counseling programs based on student feedback.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work (specialization in Clinical or Counseling Psychology preferred).
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in student counseling, preferably in a higher education or engineering college setting.
Certifications:
Certification in student or adolescent counseling is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental approach.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Understanding of academic and placement-related pressures faced by engineering students.
Team player with strong coordination and organizational skills.
Working Hours:
As per college schedule (with flexibility during examinations or placement seasons).
