Job Description

The Academic Counselor supports student success by providing academic advising, educational planning, and guidance. The counselor works closely with students to help them identify academic goals, select courses, understand institutional policies, and navigate any academic challenges they face throughout their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one academic advising to students regarding course selection, degree requirements, academic goals, and graduation planning. Assist students in developing individualized academic plans that align with their personal and professional goals. Monitor student academic performance and intervene with appropriate support strategies when necessary. Guide students in understanding college/university policies, procedures, and program requirements. Support new student orientation and registration processes. Refer students to appropriate campus resources (e.g., tutoring, mental health services, financial aid). Maintain accurate and confidential student records using institutional advising systems. Collaborate with faculty and other departments to support student retention and success initiatives. Conduct workshops or group sessions on academic skills, time management, study strategies, etc. Stay updated with curriculum changes, academic deadlines, and institutional policy updates.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Experience:

Minimum 1-3 years of academic advising, counseling, or related student support services experience preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of academic advising best practices. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Proficiency in student information systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft) and advising software. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
