A

Structural Design Engineer

designs the

load-bearing frameworks

of structures to ensure they can withstand forces such as gravity, wind, earthquakes, and temperature changes -- while remaining safe, durable, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Analysis

Create structural designs using engineering principles and building codes. Perform stress, load, and deflection analysis on structural components. Use finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools.

Software & Tools

Proficient in software such as:

AutoCAD

,

Revit

,

ETABS

,

STAAD Pro

,

SAP2000

,

Tekla Structures

,

ANSYS

Use BIM (Building Information Modeling) for integrated design workflows.

Documentation

Prepare detailed design drawings, calculations, and specifications. Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors.

Project Coordination

Review shop drawings and ensure compliance with design intent. Conduct site inspections to verify construction aligns with structural plans.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure all designs comply with local and international codes (e.g.,

IS Codes

ACI

Eurocode

BS

,

ASCE

). Perform structural assessments of existing buildings if needed.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Civil or Structural Engineering.Master's (M.Tech/M.S.) in Structural Engineering is an advantage.

Certifications (Optional but Valuable):

Chartered Engineer (CEng) Professional Engineer (PE) BIM Certification Software certifications (ETABS, Revit, etc.)

Skills Required

Strong foundation in structural mechanics and materials. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software. Knowledge of construction methods and detailing. Good mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary coordination.
