Job Description

An STP operator manages and maintains a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) or Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), which involves operating machinery, monitoring water quality, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. The role requires analyzing water samples, troubleshooting problems, and keeping detailed records of operations to ensure safe and efficient wastewater treatment.

Core responsibilities

Operation and maintenance:

Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment and machinery within the treatment plant.

Water quality monitoring:

Collect and analyze water samples to check parameters like pH, TDS, and hardness.

Process adjustments:

Adjust chemical and microbe levels or recalibrate equipment based on test results and operational needs.

Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and resolve operational issues or malfunctions.

Record keeping:

Maintain accurate logs of plant operations and maintenance activities.

Compliance:

Ensure the plant meets all environmental regulations and standards.
Skills and qualifications

Technical skills:

Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, pumping systems, and analytical techniques.

Soft skills:

Problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team.

Education:

A diploma or ITI in a relevant field like science, environment, or engineering is often preferred, but roles can be available for various educational backgrounds.

Certifications:

Training programs are available, such as those approved by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), to equip professionals for these roles.

Up to 22K/Month
