Job Description

An Officer for Purchase/Store in a steel pipes job is responsible for the acquisition of raw materials, industrial consumables, and spare parts, as well as the management of inventory to ensure uninterrupted production. This role involves vendor management, cost control, and coordination with various internal departments.
Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers of raw materials (like steel, plates, coils), industrial consumables, and spare parts. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and payment terms to secure favorable agreements and build long-term relationships.
• Procurement Operations: Manage the full purchasing cycle, including preparing and processing purchase orders (POs), tracking deliveries, and resolving shipment issues.
• Inventory & Store Management: Oversee the inward and outward movement, storage, and handling of materials. Maintain optimal stock levels (min/max) in the ERP system to prevent stockouts or excess inventory, and conduct regular physical stock verification.
• Cost Control & Analysis: Monitor market trends (e.g., LME rates for steel) and analyze costs to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and achieve budget targets.
• Internal Coordination: Collaborate closely with the production planning, quality assurance, logistics, and finance teams to ensure material availability and quality meet operational needs and standards.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of all purchases, invoices, and contracts. Ensure all activities comply with company policies, internal/statutory audits, and relevant regulations (e.g., GST norms).

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Education: A Bachelor's degree (Engineering or Commerce preferred), with a diploma or degree in Materials Management or Supply Chain Management being a plus.
• Experience: Proven experience in a purchasing or stores role, specifically within the steel, metal, pipe, or heavy manufacturing industry.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP software (such as SAP or Oracle) and MS Excel is crucial for data analysis and inventory management. Knowledge of relevant Indian Standards (IS standards) for materials may also be required.
• Core Competencies: Strong negotiation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential for the role.
