Job Description

A Storage and Backup Specialist with a B.E/B.Tech/MCA degree and at least 3 years of hands-on experience is responsible for administering, managing, and optimizing backup and storage systems while ensuring data integrity and business continuity in enterprise environments.

Typical Job Responsibilities

Design, implementation, and administration

of SAN, NAS, and backup solutions using industry-leading products (e.g., NetApp, Dell EMC, HP, IBM, Hitachi, Commvault, Veeam).

Monitor and troubleshoot

storage and backup infrastructure to minimize downtime and perform root cause analysis for incidents.

Manage backup and disaster recovery policies

(retention, replication, deduplication, restores) and legal holds, ensuring alignment with ITIL or similar frameworks.

Perform capacity planning

and storage provisioning, including performance tuning of storage arrays and backup environments.

Document system configurations, runbooks, and procedures

for audits, compliance, and support reference.

Serve as escalation point

for complex or critical restores and mentor L1/L2 engineers on backup and storage technologies.

Coordinate maintenance, updates, and vendor support

, and perform upgrades and patch management for storage and backup systems.

Participate in a 24x7 on-call roster

for production incident response and perform off-hours support as needed.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (B.E/B.Tech/MCA). Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in storage and backup administration. Strong knowledge of backup strategies (incremental/full/differential), RTO/RPO, deduplication, and replication technologies. Experience with major enterprise backup and storage solutions (NetApp, Dell EMC, HP, IBM, Hitachi, Commvault, Veeam, or similar). Basic scripting/automation ability (e.g., PowerShell, Bash). Familiar with configuration management (e.g., ITIL practices), security, and compliance in backup environments.
Industry-Recognized Certifications (OEM or Equivalent)

EMC Proven Professional (EMCDP)

IBM Certified Specialist - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)

Symantec Certified Specialist (SCS) - Backup Exec

Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)

Hitachi Vantara Qualified Professional - Storage Administration

CompTIA Server+, Microsoft MCSA, AWS/Azure Fundamentals (preferred for hybrid/cloud environments)
