Job Description

The duties of a steward can vary depending on the setting, but generally include:

Maintaining cleanliness Stewards are responsible for keeping the dining area, kitchen, and service areas clean and sanitary. This includes restocking serving stations, rolling and replacing cutlery, and clearing tables. Customer service Stewards may greet patrons, take reservations, answer phone calls, and provide menus. They may also assist with basic cooking tasks like blending soups and prepping vegetables. Safety and sanitation Stewards ensure that all safety and sanitation procedures are followed. They may also identify and report potential hazards. Crowd management Stewards may manage crowds at events, including directing traffic and ensuring that viewing areas aren't overcrowded. Security Stewards may provide security and assurance to attendees at events. Incident response Stewards may respond to incidents, such as fires or medical emergencies, by communicating with the control point and taking immediate action.
Stewards may work in restaurants, lounges, bars, or at events. Some skills that may be useful for stewards include: Communication skills, Organizational skills, Problem-solving skills, Interpersonal skills, and Customer service.
