Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Heat Treatment Operations

Operate, control, and monitor various heat treatment processes such as annealing, normalizing, tempering, quenching, and stress relieving. Set furnace parameters (temperature, soaking time, cooling rate) as per heat treatment cycle sheets. Load and unload castings in furnaces using appropriate lifting and handling equipment.

Process Control & Monitoring

Record furnace readings (temperature, time, cycles) in heat treatment logs. Ensure uniform heating and cooling of components to avoid defects. Check and maintain furnace atmosphere (if applicable) to prevent scaling or oxidation.

Quality Assurance

Conduct hardness testing on treated components to verify compliance with specifications. Coordinate with the QC department for metallurgical testing and microstructure verification. Identify and report any non-conformances during the process.

Maintenance & Housekeeping

Perform routine checks and cleaning of furnaces, burners, and temperature controllers. Report breakdowns or abnormal furnace performance to the maintenance team. Maintain a clean and safe working area in compliance with 5S and HSE norms.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain heat treatment records, furnace calibration logs, and inspection reports. Follow ISO, IATF, or customer-specific heat treatment standards. Adhere to safety protocols for handling hot materials and quenching media.

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of steel metallurgy and heat treatment principles. Ability to read and interpret heat treatment charts and specifications. Experience with electric, gas-fired, or induction furnaces. Basic knowledge of hardness testing and inspection tools. Awareness of safety practices in high-temperature operations.

Qualification & Experience:

Education:

ITI / Diploma in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or related trade.

Experience:

Minimum 2-5 years in heat treatment operations in a steel foundry or related industry.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

Ability to work in high-temperature environments. Wear PPE such as heat-resistant gloves, face shields, and safety shoes at all times. Follow safe lifting and material handling practices.
