Job Description

To operate overhead cranes safely and efficiently for handling molten metal, molds, and heavy castings, while also assisting the maintenance team in routine upkeep, repair, and inspection of cranes, lifting equipment, and other foundry machinery.

Key ResponsibilitiesA. Crane Operation

Operate EOT (Electric Overhead Travelling) cranes, jib cranes, and hoists for lifting and transporting molten metal, molds, and heavy castings within the foundry. Follow safe lifting practices, load limits, and signaling protocols. Coordinate with furnace operators, mold preparation teams, and fettling sections for smooth material movement. Ensure accurate placement of ladles, molds, and other materials as per production requirements. Maintain constant vigilance to avoid accidents, spills, or collisions.

B. Maintenance Assistance

Assist in routine inspection, lubrication, and minor repairs of cranes, hoists, and lifting tackles. Support the maintenance team in mechanical, electrical, and structural upkeep of foundry equipment. Report any defects, unusual noises, or operational issues to the Maintenance Engineer immediately. Replace worn-out ropes, hooks, and other lifting accessories as instructed. Help maintain proper records of maintenance and inspection activities.

C. Safety & Compliance

Comply with all foundry safety standards, PPE usage, and HSE guidelines. Follow lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance work. Participate in periodic safety training and emergency drills. Ensure all lifting equipment is inspected and certified as per statutory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

ITI / Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical trade preferred.

Experience:

2-5 years in crane operation in a steel foundry or heavy engineering industry.

Licenses:

Valid Crane Operator certification.

Skills:

Knowledge of EOT crane operation & controls Basic mechanical & electrical maintenance skills Understanding of foundry safety hazards Team coordination and communication abilities

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in hot, dusty, and noisy environments. Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception. Physically fit to handle occasional manual work.

Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Zero crane-related accidents or near-misses. Minimal downtime due to crane issues. Timely completion of lifting and maintenance tasks. Compliance with maintenance and safety check schedules.
