The Airline Sciences team is part of the Airbus

Digital function

. It is composed of engineers, data scientists, developers, business analysts from all around the world.

Its objective is to act as an advisor to bring airline operational representability in all Airbus activities (pre-design, detailed design, marketing, guarantees, services). By combining aircraft models, simulations, operational research, data analytics and artificial intelligence, the Airline Sciences team is able to deliver realistic aircraft performances, network schedules and cost evaluation. By analysing historical data (weather conditions, navigation database and airport data), the Airline Sciences team can precisely match real world conditions and provide the most accurate airline model.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled

Research Intern

to contribute to an aerospace research project in India focused on

Trajectory Optimization considering fuel consumption and engine ingestion of sand/atmospheric particles.

The intern will be responsible for merging and integrating atmospheric data, developing a secondary equation for nacelle airflow modelling, and conducting large-scale impact studies.

This position will report to a Group Manager within Airbus India. Passion for technology and problem solving are a must have.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

Data Integration and Pre-processing

: Merge sand particle data (from sources like Copernicus) with a provided weather file to create a comprehensive atmospheric dataset for simulation.

Model Development

:

+

Develop a secondary equation incorporating the provided nacelle air flow model (from 1GF) into the existing trajectory optimization framework.

+

Initial development is required for at least one engine type, but the architecture must be designed for generalization to different engine models.

Large-Scale Simulation and Impact Analysis:

+

Conduct large-scale trajectory simulations comparing scenarios with and without sand particle ingestion consideration.

+

Generate a rough estimate of the potential impact of sand ingestion, particularly in terms of maintenance costs.

+

Evaluate the value of such optimization by comparing the potential maintenance savings against any additional fuel burn required for the optimized trajectory.

Provide regular updates on progress of research project findings / issues and any support required on a timely basis

Present findings to India mentor (and India and Europe HO as required) on a regular basis

Maintain appropriate documentation in relation to the activity at-hand
