Job Title: Staff Scientist, Protein Biology, Band 7 Job Location: India, Bangalore About Team: Protein Biology The Protein Biology team in involved expanding the antibody application spectrum and provide application specific validation for a large portfolio of antibodies, aimed at providing advanced reagents for research applications. The core activities of team include data processing and mining of protein biology; Western blots with state-of-art tools, High throughput and high-resolution Immuno-fluorescence imaging, Tissue-imaging and spatial histochemistry based profiling and DNA modification/ChIP (Chromatin Immunoprecipitation) grade application reagents. The applies cell biology molecular biology and biochemical methods and the focus of the role is to provide deep technical expertise and drive project excellence. Role & Responsibilities Purpose: - Drive technical excellence and expertise on application expansion for our antibodies and reagents. The role would involve deep subject matter expertise to propose, plan, guide implementation and provide technical support to complex research projects. The role will require the successful candidate to demonstrate scientific rigor in technical assessment, develop proposal and scope scientific experimental planning and execution. Ideally the role would require prior experience in managing a research projects involving cross functional research scientists to drive project objectives successfully. The role will also require the candidate to be proficient in aligning stakeholder priorities and communicate work progress to ensure delivery of program goals. Fluency in verbal and written communication of results in the work-place is highly desired. Responsibilities:

  • Deep understanding of molecular and cell biology/protein biology to engage with scientific staff and influence technical decision for project success. Expertise in design of experiment and evaluation of technical risks with ability to plan effective mitigations to ensure project deliveries are realized successfully.
  • Proven expertise to analyze and interpret complex scientific data. Ability to translate the information into actionable implementation to drive project goals.
  • Candidate should have prior experience to identify the skill set and recommend/select project team. The candidate would be required to coach and lead a team of expert scientific staff on projects. Ideal candidate would be able to communicate project objectives, align on technical path and conduct review of experiments to ensure the scope and goals for the project are realized. The selected candidate should be able to demonstrate use of appropriate methodology to yield actionable results.
  • Candidate actively builds understanding of business operations beyond the immediate functional and technical domain and applies knowledge to process/product development for continuous improvement of R&D capabilities.
  • The candidate would ideally be able to function across global cross-functional team and ensure the project milestones and technical deviation are monitored and aligned with R&D and business stakeholders. Function with the R&D managers to ensure documentation according to current organizational policy and provide inputs to R&D manager as a matrix manger with dotted line responsibility to develop the project team
  • Proactively pressure-tests conclusions by sharing results and seeking out conflicting viewpoints. Proactively participates in PCP to understand opportunities for product and process improvements
Candidate Requirement: Education & Experience levels:
  • Applicants Ph.D with 7years+ work experience in the areas biology that may include cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, biotechnology/biochemistry
Nature of experience:
  • Prior industrial research experience >4 years+ with proven ability to manage and deliver successfully on scientific research projects
  • Project work or research project work with evidence of skills leading a group with scientific staff or technology projects, ideally in the bioscience domain
  • Staff Scientist would have driven or contributed successfully to innovation efforts
Skills:
  • Experience in leading a group of scientific staff. Deep scientific experience in driving research projects and familiar industry trends, tools and technologies to evaluate and plan technical path.
  • Skills in project management and planning projects, preferably in the biotechnology/biopharma environment.
  • People skills in coaching and mentoring scientific staff. Enabling incident resolution around projects
  • Expertise in design of experiment, proficient in data analysis and workflows in protein cell and molecular biology. Expert level understanding of biochemical, cellular & molecular biologic techniques for protein characterization that include cell treatment, tissue/cell lysate preparation, sub-cellular fractionation, immunoprecipitation and microscopy for detection of protein expression and localization. Proven ability to analyze biological pathway and expertise to interpret cell biology results.
  • Communication of research data and provide expert level technical trouble-shooting to resolve scientific problems.
