Job Description

Key Responsibilities and Duties:



A. Clinical Nursing Care



Admission & Initial Assessment

Receive neonates from delivery room/OT/ward with proper handover.

Assess vital signs, APGAR score, gestational age, weight, and initial condition.

Assist in stabilizing and initiating neonatal resuscitation if required (as per NRP protocol).

Record all admission details accurately.

Daily Neonatal Nursing Care

Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiration, SpO?, blood pressure).

Maintain thermoregulation (use of incubators, radiant warmers, KMC, etc.).

Provide routine hygiene care -- cord care, eye care, mouth care, diaper change, and sponge bath.

Assist in feeding -- breastfeeding, expressed breast milk (EBM), tube feeding, or TPN.

Observe for signs of distress (cyanosis, apnea, seizures, etc.) and report immediately.

Medication & Fluid Administration

Administer IV fluids, medications, and injections as per neonatologist's orders.

Prepare and manage IV infusions using infusion/syringe pumps.

Perform dilution and dosage calculations accurately.

Monitor for adverse reactions and maintain fluid balance charts.

Procedures Performed by NICU Nurse

Aseptic and Infection Control: Strict hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation techniques.

Airway Management: Suctioning (oral/nasal/endotracheal), oxygen therapy, CPAP assistance.

Resuscitation: Assist in neonatal resuscitation and emergency interventions.

Venous Access: Peripheral IV cannulation, assisting in umbilical line insertion.

Blood Sampling: Heel prick, capillary blood glucose testing, and venous sampling.

Monitoring: ECG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and transcutaneous bilirubin.

Phototherapy: Set up, monitor, and document exposure; protect eyes and genitalia.

Feeding Procedures: Orogastric/nasogastric tube insertion and feeding; gavage feeding.

Catheterization: Assist or perform urethral catheterization for urine output measurement.

ET Tube Care: Suctioning, fixation, and monitoring ventilated babies.

Care of Babies on Ventilator: Monitor ventilator settings, alarms, and ABG samples.

Blood Transfusion: Verify orders, prepare equipment, monitor reactions, and maintain records.

CPAP & Oxygen Therapy: Set up CPAP machine, monitor flow rate and pressure.

Exchange Transfusion Assistance: Prepare setup, assist physician, and monitor vitals.

Procedural Assistance: Assist in lumbar puncture, IV cannulation, intubation, central line insertion.

Emergency Care

Identify and manage neonatal emergencies such as apnea, bradycardia, shock, seizures, or hypothermia.

Perform CPR and assist the resuscitation team.

Prepare emergency drugs and equipment..

Pay: ?13,000.00 - ?25,000.00 per month
