- 4-year degree program recognized by INC / State Nursing Council. Must be a

Registered Nurse (RN)

and

Registered Midwife (RM)

with the

State Nursing Council

or relevant licensing authority. A

valid registration certificate

is mandatory for practice in hospitals.

1-2 years of clinical experience

(inward, ICU, ER, or OT) preferred for most hospital roles.

Specialized experience

(critical care, emergency, operation theatre, maternity, etc.) preferred for respective departments.

Job Responsibility (Scrub Nurse)



Check and prepare the operating theatre before surgery (equipment, instruments, sterile supplies, and environment). Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site as per hospital policy (time-out procedure). Prepare and arrange sterile instruments, drapes, and necessary equipment according to the type of surgery. Perform surgical hand scrub and don sterile gown and gloves. Assist in positioning the patient safely on the operating table. Ensure all necessary equipment (diathermy, suction, lights, etc.) are functioning properly before surgery. Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout the procedure. Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon and assistants efficiently and safely. Anticipate the surgeon's needs and prepare instruments accordingly. Count instruments, sponges, and needles with the circulating nurse (initial, intra-operative, and final counts). Handle tissue specimens correctly and ensure they are labeled and sent for histopathology as required. Monitor the sterile field and alert the team if contamination occurs. Assist in applying dressings and securing drains post-surgery. Help in the safe transfer of the patient to the recovery room (PACU). Ensure that all instruments and equipment are cleaned, decontaminated, and sent for sterilization. Complete surgical count documentation and report discrepancies immediately. Restock and prepare the theatre for the next procedure. Document nursing care and observations accurately in the patient's records. Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient dignity at all times. Adhere to infection control policies and safety standards. Participate in regular audits, quality assurance, and risk management activities. Attend training and continuous professional development programs. Report any equipment malfunction or incident to the appropriate authority. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthetists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Respond quickly and effectively during emergency surgeries. Assist in managing surgical complications intra-operatively. Provide support as a circulating nurse when required. Participate in on-call duties or rotation schedules as assigned.

Job Responsibilities (ER)



Perform

triage

-- assess, prioritize, and categorize patients based on the severity of their condition. Obtain and document

vital signs

and a focused history (allergies, medications, medical history, etc.). Identify life-threatening conditions and initiate immediate nursing interventions. Communicate promptly with the emergency physician or medical officer. Assist doctors in

resuscitation and emergency procedures

(CPR, intubation, defibrillation, etc.). Administer prescribed

medications, IV fluids, and oxygen therapy

safely. Prepare and assist in minor surgical procedures (suturing, wound dressing, splinting, etc.). Monitor and document patient condition continuously during emergency management. Manage and operate emergency equipment such as monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, infusion pumps, and suction devices. Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and relatives during emergencies. Coordinate with other departments (Radiology, Laboratory, ICU, OT, etc.) for investigations and patient transfer. Handover cases to the appropriate ward/unit with complete documentation and verbal report. Maintain clear and accurate communication with the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Liaise with ambulance services for incoming or outgoing patient transfers. Record all nursing assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately. Maintain proper

ER records

, including triage charts, medication administration records, and incident reports. Ensure

legal and ethical documentation

for medico-legal cases (MLC). Report critical incidents, equipment malfunction, and patient safety concerns to the supervisor promptly. Follow strict

infection prevention and control protocols

. Ensure all

equipment and surfaces are cleaned and disinfected

after each use. Dispose of biomedical waste properly as per hospital policy. Maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) standards and promote a safe environment for patients and staff. Participate in

emergency drills, mock codes

, and disaster preparedness programs. Maintain stock levels of emergency drugs and consumables. Ensure all emergency equipment is checked and functional at the start of every shift. Attend continuing nursing education (CNE) and professional training programs. Uphold

confidentiality, compassion, and professional ethics

at all times. Actively participate in

mass casualty management

and

disaster response

as per hospital protocol. Be familiar with

Basic Life Support (BLS)

and

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

procedures. Stay alert and prepared to respond to any emergency situation within or outside the department.

Job Responsibility (Ward):



Receive and orient new patients to the ward. Verify patient identification, admission details, and doctor's orders. Perform an initial nursing assessment and record baseline vital signs. Document patient history, allergies, and nursing care plan. Ensure patient belongings are properly recorded and safely stored. Administer

medications, injections, and IV fluids

as per doctor's orders and hospital policy. Provide

daily nursing care

-- hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and comfort. Monitor

vital signs

and record any changes in patient condition promptly. Assist physicians during rounds, examinations, and minor procedures. Implement

nursing care plans

and evaluate patient progress regularly. Educate patients and families regarding health conditions, medications, and post-discharge care. Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date

nursing records

and charts. Record medication administration in the

Medication Administration Record (MAR)

. Document any incidents, patient complaints, or adverse reactions appropriately. Handover complete and clear patient reports to the next shift. Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information at all times. Collaborate effectively with doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, and other members of the healthcare team. Coordinate investigations, diagnostic tests, and patient transfers as required. Provide timely updates to the doctor regarding any changes in patient condition. Offer emotional support to patients and their families. Follow

Assist the Ward In-Charge in supervision and orientation of junior nurses and nursing students. Report any malfunction of equipment or safety hazards immediately. Prepare patients for

discharge

as per doctor's order. Provide discharge education on medication, diet, follow-up visits, and self-care. Ensure discharge summaries, prescriptions, and reports are handed over to the patient. Record discharge details accurately in the ward register. Recognize and respond promptly to medical emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, collapse). Perform

Basic Life Support (BLS)

when required and assist in advanced resuscitation. Report all critical incidents and initiate appropriate documentation and escalation.
