Job Description

A staff nurse provides direct patient care in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. They are responsible for administering medications, monitoring vital signs, documenting patient conditions, and educating patients and their families about their health. Staff nurses also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans. Key Responsibilities of a Staff Nurse:

Patient Care:

Administering medications, monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration), assisting with treatments and procedures, and providing basic patient care like hygiene and feeding.

Documentation:

Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, treatments, medications, and observations.

Communication:

Effectively communicating with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals about the patient's condition, treatment plan, and progress.

Collaboration:

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans, and collaborating with physicians, other nurses, and allied health professionals.

Education:

Educating patients and their families about their health conditions, medications, and self-care techniques.

Ward/Unit Management:

May be involved in tasks like preparing patient care assignments, coordinating staff schedules, and supervising junior nurses or nursing students.
Skills and Qualifications:

Nursing Degree:

A nursing degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) is required.

Licensure:

Passing the relevant nursing licensure exam and holding a valid nursing license.

Clinical Skills:

Proficiency in essential nursing skills, including medication administration, vital signs monitoring, wound care, and patient assessment.

Communication Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and colleagues.

Critical Thinking:

Ability to assess situations, make sound judgments, and prioritize tasks.

Empathy and Compassion:

Ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients and their families.

Teamwork:

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Stamina:

Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Technical Skills:

Basic computer skills for documentation and accessing patient information.
