Role of a Diabetic Nurse
1. Screening of Type 2 Diabetes
Explain the risk factors of type 2 diabetes to your patient in detail, which can help him/her to be more careful
Throw light on the need of delaying or preventing type 2 diabetes
Explain the importance of weight control and the role of the diet in the prevention, or delay of the progression in the type 2 diabetes
Also, explain the role of exercises in the prevention or the delay of progression in diabetes type 2
2. Promoting Self-care
Advise your patient on self-care and encourage them to use their care plans
Encourage them to have a proper diet with minimum exercise
3. An Awareness of how mental health can affect people with diabetes
Describe to your patient how their mental health like anxiety, depression, and stress can affect them with diabetes
Have a report on the changes in your patient's mental health, which might include changes in medications, depression, mood and appearance
4. Monitoring the patient's nutritional needs
Recognize the high sugar content of your patient's foods and drinks
Explain to them about what to eat and what not to eat or drink
Always maintain a record of your patient's height and weight accurately
5. Urine monitoring
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions to perform the safe side test
Perform the test alone, with a request of a doctor or a registered nurse
Have a report of the test results following the procedures for further usage
6. Blood glucose monitoring
As mentioned, follow the local guidelines and the manufacturer's instructions to perform a safe test
Perform the test separately, with a request of a doctor or a registered nurse

7. Oral therapies

Show and make the patient understand the process or procedure of the on-going nature of the therapy
Describe the noticed problems competently
Nursing staff who handle the prescribe or administer insulin must undertake the training courses
9. Identifying and treating Hypoglycemia
State the normal range of blood glucose
Explain clearly the mild and severe signs, symptoms, and causes of Hypoglycemia
Offer suitable treatment to the patient as per local guidelines
Have a clear document and report to a registered nurse
Make patient comfortable and reassure

_10. Identifying and treating Hyperglycemia
Express the normal range of blood glucose
Explain clearly about the signs, symptoms, causes, precautions and treatment of Hyperglycemia
Always perform the tests with the local guidelines, even if it is a blood or a ketone test
Take down the results correctly and clearly
