Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including physical examinations and gathering detailed health histories.
Develop, implement, and evaluate personalized nursing care plans based on patient needs and physician orders.
Administer medications, injections, and intravenous (IV) infusions, and monitor patients for side effects or adverse reactions.
Monitor and record patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Perform technical medical procedures such as catheterization, wound care, and oxygen therapy.
Assist with patient feeding, personal hygiene, and other activities of daily living.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, as well as care for critically ill patients in specialized units like the ICU.
Education and communication
Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, post-treatment care, and strategies for health maintenance.
Maintain excellent verbal and written communication with patients, their families, and the entire medical team.
Act as a patient advocate, communicating patient needs and concerns to physicians and other healthcare providers.
Documentation and administration
Ensure the accuracy, conciseness, and confidentiality of all patient medical records and documentation.
Maintain and manage ward supplies, surgical instruments, and medical equipment, reporting any malfunctions or inventory needs.
Participate in medical and nursing rounds with doctors and senior nursing officials.
Prepare and process patient admission and discharge paperwork.
Safety and quality improvement
Adhere strictly to all hospital policies and protocols, including safety and infection control measures.
Respond to emergency medical situations, demonstrating critical thinking and decisive action in the absence of a doctor.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing professional development activities.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and nursing students.
Requirements
Education and license
A diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing is required.
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the State Nursing Council.
Skills and qualifications
Proven experience as a nurse, with specialized experience in areas like ICU, OT, or emergency care as an advantage.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with patients and colleagues.
