Job Description

A staff nurse's core responsibilities revolve around providing direct patient care, managing patient needs, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. They assess patients, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and educate patients and families. Staff nurses also play a key role in coordinating care, maintaining records, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Staff Nurse:

Direct Patient Care:

Assessing patients' conditions and needs.

Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.

Monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).

Providing wound care and other medical procedures.

Assisting with patient hygiene and mobility.

Developing and implementing individualized care plans.

Collaborating with physicians, other nurses, and allied health professionals.

Coordinating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Educating patients and their families about health conditions, medications, and self-care.

Providing emotional support and counseling to patients and families.

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.

Documenting patient assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment.

Supervising and guiding junior nurses and nursing students.

Participating in the orientation and training of new staff.

Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

Adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.

Participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Participating in emergency situations and crisis management.

Maintaining professional competency through continuing education.

Contributing to the overall functioning of the nursing unit or healthcare facility.
