Job Summary:

The Ortho OT Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic surgical procedures. The role involves assisting surgeons, ensuring aseptic techniques, preparing surgical instruments, maintaining OT protocols, and providing compassionate patient care before, during, and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Operative Duties

Receive and prepare patients for orthopedic surgeries. Verify patient identity, consent forms, investigations, and surgical site. Ensure proper positioning of patients as per surgical requirements. Check and prepare OT equipment, instruments, implants, and sterile supplies.

Intra-Operative Duties

Scrub, circulate, and assist surgeons during orthopedic procedures. Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards. Handle surgical instruments, sutures, implants, and orthopedic devices efficiently. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during operations. Monitor patient's vital signs in coordination with the anesthetist. Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.

Post-Operative Duties

Assist in safe transfer of patients to recovery room/PACU. Provide immediate postoperative nursing care and monitor for complications. Ensure proper documentation of intraoperative notes, implants used, and nursing care provided.

General Duties

Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and NABH/JCI standards. Maintain OT cleanliness, sterilization, and equipment functioning. Participate in regular training, skill development, and emergency drills. Support surgeons and colleagues in emergency and elective procedures. Report any adverse events, equipment failures, or incidents promptly.
