I. JOB DETAILS
Job Title
Staff Nurse-Operation Theatre
Reporting to
Nurse In-charge/Nursing Supervisor
II. JOB PURPOSE

• To assist in delivering high quality nursing care at hospital

III. Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safe, comfortable and comprehensive nursing care for all patients under her care.
• Follow infection control policies and biomedical waste management guidelines.
• To be well groomed, punctual & adhere to company policies and practices.
• Carryout doctor's orders and instructions promptly and intelligently.
• Make double checks before administering Narcotic drugs, High alert medication and blood transfusions. Make sure a second nurse is present while preparing and administering them.
• Observe changes in patient's condition, take necessary action, report and record.
• Take equipment and drug inventory on daily basis and maintain records accordingly.
• Maintain good interpersonal relationship with nurse administrators, senior staff, juniors and students.
• Attend In-service education programmes in order to update knowledge and keep abreast of changes and trends in health and nursing care.
• Keep principles of aseptic techniques in performing surgical scrub, setting instruments, gowning, gloving as needed for the procedure.
• Assist as a circulatory or scrub nurse.
• Report any untoward reactions of patient to the surgeon or anesthesiologist.
• Assess patients prior to surgery (e.g. NPO status) and alleviate their concerns
• Gather all supplies needed for the operation
• Assume responsibility of keeping the operating room sterilized
• Monitor patient's vital signs to detect anomalies
• Evaluate patient in postoperative phases
• Adhere to safety standards and precautions
• Assume duties within or out of the sterile field as assigned
• Provide surgical patients with perioperative care in recovery, procedure, and operating rooms.
• Stock operating rooms with sterile surgical equipment, linens, and supplies.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans for surgical patients.
• Prepare patients for surgery by cleaning and disinfecting areas to be operated on.
• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
• Collaborate with surgical teams and other medical professionals on patient medication and post-surgery care.
• Update patient files and medical records.
• Assist with the ordering, maintenance, and safe storage of surgical equipment and supplies.
• Provide patients with post-surgery care instructions and answering questions.
• Organise patient transportation from the OT to the recovery room/ICU.
• Supervise all the postoperative activities to prepare the OT for the next scheduled or emergency operations
• Implement the hygiene, sterilisation, asepsis and disinfection protocols and procedures at all times, before, during and after operations, to ensure the safety conditions of patients and staff
• Supervise and train the nurse aides and cleaners while in the OT, following hospital infection control protocols
• Control all equipment and material stock used in the OT to ensure efficient and rational use of material resources
• Contribute to monthly reports according to guidelines (statistical reports, etc.)
• Apart from the above duties and responsibilities carry out any other duties assigned to her by the Nurse In-charge & Nursing Supervisor

• Documentation error = 0%
• Compliance of hand hygiene and infection control practices =100%
• Adherence to patient care standards.
• Reporting the Occupational & Environmental Issues to HOD.

V. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in GNM/ BSC in Nursing./Post Basic B.Sc/M.Sc in Nursing
Experience

• 0- 5 years of experience.

Behavioural Skills

• The role required to do shift duties including night shifts and emergency duties on call as per monthly planned roster.

• English
