. The OT Staff Nurse will play a vital role in supporting the surgical team by preparing the theatre, assisting during surgeries, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring quality postoperative care.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Responsibilities:
Verify patient identity, consent forms, and pre-op preparations.
Prepare and check the surgical instruments, equipment, and OT tables as per the procedure.
Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and maintenance of aseptic technique.
Coordinate with surgical team members and anesthetists regarding the procedure requirements.
Intra-Operative Responsibilities:
Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies during surgeries.
Monitor patients' vitals and respond to critical situations promptly.
Handle surgical instruments and equipment such as drills, scopes, and cautery units, especially during orthopedic, laparoscopic, and neurosurgical procedures.
Maintain accurate surgical counts of sponges, instruments, and needles.
Post-Operative Responsibilities:
Support the transfer of patients to recovery rooms and ensure continuity of care.
Proper documentation of the surgical procedure, materials used, and patient observations.
Clean and prepare the OT for subsequent surgeries.
Administrative & Quality Duties:
Maintain patient safety and infection control standards.
Participate in quality audits and continuous education programs.
Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and accreditation requirements.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Educational Qualification:
GNM / B.Sc Nursing from a recognized institution.
Registration:
Valid Kerala Nursing Council registration.
Experience:
Minimum 1-3 years in a hospital operation theatre, with specific exposure to
orthopedic, laparoscopic, and neurosurgical cases
.
Knowledge of surgical instruments and OT protocols.
Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful and emergency situations.
Preferred Attributes:
Certification in OT Technology or Advanced Surgical Nursing.
Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals.
Team-oriented, with a patient-centric approach and commitment to safety and quality.
