Job Description

A Labour Room Nurse or Staff Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients during prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum stages. Key responsibilities include monitoring maternal and fetal vitals, administering medications, assisting obstetricians/midwives, facilitating pain management, managing emergencies, and maintaining sterile, equipped, and organized delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Clinical Assessment & Monitoring:

Continuously monitor fetal heart rates, contraction patterns, and maternal vital signs to ensure safety.

Labor & Delivery Assistance:

Coach patients, assist with positioning, manage pain (including epidural support), and assist physicians or midwives during vaginal or cesarean deliveries.

Emergency Response:

Recognize and respond immediately to complications such as fetal distress, shoulder dystocia, or postpartum hemorrhage (PPH).

Patient Support & Education:

Provide emotional support, educate families on labor progress, and instruct on newborn care.

Preparation & Maintenance:

Maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment (including fumigation), prepare equipment, and manage inventory of supplies.

Documentation:

Accurately maintain partographs, patient charts, and nursing notes.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's or Diploma in Nursing (BSc/GNM). Valid Nursing License and Midwifery Certification. Experience in maternity, labor, or delivery wards. Strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
