Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients' physical and mental health.
Monitor vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration) and other clinical indicators.
Observe, record, and report changes in patient condition promptly to senior nurses and physicians.
Nursing Care Planning and Implementation
Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans in coordination with the medical team.
Provide direct patient care: bed making, bathing, feeding, toileting, repositioning to prevent pressure sores, hygiene care.
Administer medications and treatments per physician's orders, following the "five rights" (right patient, right drug, right dose, right time, right route).
Clinical & Technical Duties
Assist in wound dressing, catheterization, IV fluid therapy, and other procedures.
Prepare patients for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures; assist doctors during minor surgeries or interventions as required.
Collect and label specimens (blood, urine, etc.) and send them for lab tests.
Pre- and Post-Operative Care
Prepare patients for surgery (pre-op), and provide post-op nursing care, monitoring recovery, vital signs, and wound status.
Assist in pain management, mobilization, and patient education post-surgery.
Emergency and Critical Care
Respond to emergencies: help in resuscitation, CPR, and other life-saving measures.
Work in critical-care areas (if applicable): ICU, HDU, emergency department, maintaining high standards of care.
Patient and Family Education
Educate patients and their families about disease processes, treatment plans, self-care, hygiene, and post-discharge care.
Provide emotional and psychological support; counsel patients and families as needed.
Infection Control & Safety
Follow standard infection control protocols (sterilization of equipment, hand hygiene, disposal of biohazardous waste).
Ensure patient safety by maintaining a clean environment, preventing falls, and minimizing risk of hospital-acquired infections.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely patient records: nursing charting, medication records, intake/output, shift handover.
Prepare regular reports (shift-wise) and communicate changes in patient status to relevant team members.
Team Collaboration
Collaborate with doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
Participate in ward rounds, nurse meetings, and case discussions.
Supervision & Training
Supervise and guide junior nurses, trainee nurses, and support staff in the ward.
Mentor and support nursing students or interns when assigned.
Administrative Duties
Help maintain inventory of nursing supplies, instruments, medications, and linen.
Assist in scheduling (duty rosters), and cover for the ward in-charge when needed.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and staff training.
Professional Development
Participate in continuous education, training programs, and workshops.
Keep up-to-date with nursing best practices, hospital policies, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Qualification
:
Diploma in Nursing (GNM) / Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent.
Registered Nurse (RN) certification / license according to regional/state norms.
Experience
:
Prior experience (preferred but not always mandatory) in a hospital setting -- wards, ICU, or specialty areas.
