Job Description

In a hospital setting, a staff nurse's responsibilities encompass a wide range of direct patient care tasks, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, observing and documenting patient conditions, and providing patient and family education. They also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans, and may assist with procedures and surgeries. Detailed Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

Staff nurses provide hands-on care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility for patients.

Medication Administration: They administer prescribed medications, ensuring correct dosage, timing, and route.

Monitoring and Assessment: Staff nurses monitor vital signs, observe patient behavior, and document any changes or concerns in patient condition.

Care Planning: They participate in developing and implementing patient care plans, working with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Patient and Family Education: Staff nurses educate patients and families about their condition, treatment plan, and how to manage it at home.

Assist with Procedures: They may assist with medical procedures, such as drawing blood, inserting IVs, or changing dressings.

Documentation: Staff nurses maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including observations, interventions, and progress notes.

Collaboration: They collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

Supervision: In some cases, staff nurses may supervise and guide nursing students or other nursing staff.
