Assess critically ill patients and develop individualized treatment plans.
Manage life-support systems such as ventilators, dialysis, and ECMO.
Perform invasive procedures (central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes).
Monitoring:
Regularly review patient vitals, lab reports, and imaging.
Adjust medications, fluids, and nutrition based on ongoing assessment.
Coordination:
Lead ICU rounds with multidisciplinary teams (nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, physiotherapists).
Communicate with family about prognosis and treatment plans.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of all interventions, medications, and clinical observations.
B. ICU Nurses
Direct Patient Care:
Monitor vital signs, neurological status, and fluid balance continuously.
Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as prescribed.
Perform wound care, suctioning, and hygiene support.
Technical Duties:
Operate ventilators, infusion pumps, and other ICU equipment.
Collect samples for lab testing and coordinate diagnostic procedures.
Support & Communication:
Assist doctors during procedures.
Update patient charts accurately.
Provide emotional support to patients and families.
Casualty / Emergency Department Staff Roles & Responsibilities
Immediate Patient Assessment:
Triage patients based on severity (life-threatening vs. minor injuries).
Initiate resuscitation and stabilization.
Critical Care:
Perform emergency procedures: intubation, central lines, chest tube insertion, wound management.
Make rapid decisions for surgical referrals or ICU transfers.
Documentation & Communication:
Maintain detailed records of interventions and clinical decisions.
Update families about patient condition and next steps.
B. Emergency Nurses
Triage patients quickly and accurately.
Monitor vital signs and provide immediate interventions (IV lines, medications, CPR).
Assist doctors in emergency procedures.
Maintain documentation of care and medications administered.
C. Paramedics / EMTs (in Hospital ER)
Receive patients from ambulances and provide initial assessment.
Perform life-saving interventions en route or on arrival (CPR, airway management).
Communicate patient status to emergency doctors promptly.
