DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF GYNAECOLOGY OT NURSING STAFF
1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities
- Prepare the OT before each procedure (sterility, equipment, instruments, linens).
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical site as per protocol.
- Ensure patient is properly positioned and prepared for gynecological surgeries.
- Check working condition of OT lights, suction, cautery, anesthesia machine, monitors.
- Assist in preparing sterile trays and instruments.
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs, IV fluids, and blood products.
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection-control protocols.
2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist the surgeon and anesthetist during procedures.
- Handle instruments, sutures, and surgical supplies safely.
- Maintain an accurate count of all instruments and sponges.
- Monitor patient vitals under anesthetist's guidance.
- Maintain sterile field throughout the procedure.
- Assist with laparoscopic equipment and cautery units.
- Document intra-operative details accurately.
3. Post-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist in safe transfer of patient to recovery room.
- Report patient condition to recovery staff.
- Ensure all instruments are cleaned and sent for sterilization.
- Dispose biomedical waste as per BMW rules.
- Prepare OT for the next surgery.
4. Patient Care & Safety
- Ensure patient dignity and privacy at all times.
- Monitor patient for immediate complications.
- Assist in emergency gynecological procedures.
5. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure all OT equipment is functional.
- Maintain stock of consumables.
- Report malfunctioning equipment immediately.
6. Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain OT registers and surgical notes.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, and technicians.
- Assist in surgery scheduling and OT flow management.
7. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow sterilization and infection-control protocols strictly.
- Ensure proper hand hygiene.
- Manage contaminated materials safely.
8. Professional Conduct
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Display professional behavior and compassion.
- Participate in training sessions and audits.
