CCN must possess physical, mental and emotional stability to work with seriously ill patients
CCN is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment.
He/She Sets priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity.
CCN will take hand over at the bed side and will physically check the patient for any new break in the skin, bed sore, boils, phlebitis etc. and will soon fill the incident form if observed during taking over
CCN must know to evaluate her/his patient, recognize complications and coordinate with intensivist for intervention
CCN will check all fluids flowing on syringe pumps are appropriately labeled and are flowing as per the latest orders
CCN will check all the equipments placed on patient are appropriately cleaned/autoclaved, ETOed before and after use.
He/she will check for appropriate if all equipments used on patients are functioning properly, e.g Bi-pap, DVT pumps, Alfa mattress, ventilators, suction Oxygen etc
Maintain continuity through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
Soon after checking the patient and attached equipments, CCN will provide desired care e.g. change of position, catheter care, oral care ET tube care etc.
CCN will observe vital signs and other parameters on the monitor carefully and will record 1hrly or as desired, on the flow sheet
CCN will turn all patients every 2 hourly unless contraindicated. She/he will observe the skin each time turning is done
CCN will observe all central, arterial and I/V lines for any signs of infection and will report the same. They will do dressings of lines as per CDC guidelines
CCN will strictly observe hand hygiene before and after the procedure
CCN will monitor placement of cathters,tubings , oxygen etc and will ensure no tubing is getting pressed under the patients skin
CCN will ensure all patients are given sponge bath every morning or whenever required and will document the care given
CCN will interact with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner. They will ensure that silence is maintained at all times in the ICU
CCN will assist doctors and will perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
