JOB PURPOSE: To independently perform staff level accounting fun ctions that deal with accounting issues of normal complexity to support business pro cesses and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices. JOB DUTIES: From the outset, the Staff Accountant I will be exp ected to be a contributing performer, performing financial/decision support accounting work that sup ports business processes. Additionally, this posit ion will: -develop an expanded understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting practices, systems and procedures; -apply accounting knowledge -participate on and lead teams . The incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accou nting functions and will perform a high level of compilation with a broad range of analysis work. T he Staff Accountant I will review clerical input, a dvise salaried employees and entry-level accountants, gen erate reports and provide related commentary. The Staff Accountant I will review and validate relevan t data and data sources, analyze information and provide feedback. Incumbent works on challenging, low to medium risk issues and makes decisions and recommendations as appropriate. Work will be direc ted by an accounting supervisor primarily through review of progress and results. Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including: -financial accounting, including preparation of jou rnal entries, account reconciliations, inventory accounting, consolidations -internal management accounting, including profit center reporting and budgeting and margin analysis -coordination of purchased services and transfer p rices -development and maintenance of internal controls a nd procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley control Documentation. Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including: § financial accounting including preparation of jour nal entries, financial statements, trend marginal variance analysis, and account reconciliat ions § inventory accounting and standard cost revision § payroll and benefit accounting § intercompany reconciliation and analysis § development and maintenance of internal controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation. Possible areas of support could include: § Inventory Accounting & Plant Support § Sales / Cost of Sales Accounting § General Ledger / Legal Entity Reporting & Analysis § Capital Assets Accounting § Financial Systems § SOX Compliance § Tax Accounting, Tax & Trade Compliance (outside th e U.S.) Interacts with multiple functional areas and levels of authority. The Staff Accountant I is capable of handling complex accounting issues such as: § inventory valuation § intercompany transactions § sales and cost of sales reporting § resolving financial reporting problems. The Staff Accountant I will demonstrate knowledge a nd ability to independently handle accounting issue s. They will demonstrate good communication skills and have an expanded knowledge of Caterpillar’s businesses, products, suppliers and customers. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree in accounting or equivalent with minimum of 6 years of work related experience.
  • Experience in reconciliation and journal entry is required.
  • Flexibility to work in US shift is required.
  • SAP experience is preferred.
