The Store Manager is responsible for managing the entire store and inventory operations related to raw materials, consumables, tools, finished goods, and spare parts used in sheet metal fabrication and production. The role ensures timely availability of materials, proper stock control, accurate documentation, and efficient coordination with purchase, production, and quality departments to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:1. Material & Inventory Management
Manage receipt, storage, and issue of raw materials such as CR/HR sheets, coils, hardware, consumables, and other components.
Ensure proper identification, labeling, and segregation of materials by grade, size, and specification.
Maintain accurate inventory records using ERP or inventory management systems.
Conduct periodic physical stock verification and reconcile with system records.
Monitor stock levels and initiate purchase requisitions to prevent shortages.
Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) or LIFO systems as per material type and company policy.
2. Store Operations
Oversee the unloading, handling, and safe storage of sheet metal materials and heavy components.
Maintain organized storage layouts to optimize space utilization and material accessibility.
Ensure timely issue of materials to production based on job cards or material requisition slips.
Coordinate with Quality and Production departments for material inspection, rejection, or return.
Ensure proper documentation of all receipts, issues, and returns of materials.
3. Process & Compliance
Implement and maintain 5S, safety, and housekeeping standards within the store area.
Ensure compliance with company SOPs, ISO standards, and audit requirements.
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly stock and consumption reports for management review.
Support internal and external audits by providing accurate inventory data.
4. Team & Coordination
Supervise storekeepers, material handlers, and helpers.
Plan manpower requirements and shift allocations.
Train staff on material handling procedures, ERP usage, and safety practices.
Liaise with Purchase, Production, Planning, and Quality teams for smooth material flow.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of
sheet metal raw materials
(CR, HR sheets, coils, SS, aluminum, etc.).
Familiarity with
ERP / MRP systems
and warehouse management software.
Excellent
inventory control
and
documentation
skills.
Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Good communication and coordination skills across departments.
Knowledge of safety, 5S, and lean warehousing practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum
5-8 years
of experience in store/inventory management in a
sheet metal, fabrication, or manufacturing industry
, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Technical Knowledge:
Understanding of sheet thicknesses, grades, cutting plans, and fabrication materials.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Inventory accuracy (% variance between physical and system stock).
Material availability rate vs. production requirement.
Reduction in obsolete and non-moving inventory.
Compliance with 5S and safety standards.
Timeliness and accuracy of documentation and reporting
