The Senior Purchase Manager will lead the complete procurement function for raw materials, machinery, and services required in solar module manufacturing. This role demands strong vendor management, strategic sourcing, cost optimization, and deep knowledge of solar industry materials such as PV glass, EVA, backsheet, cells, junction boxes, aluminum frames, and packaging materials.
Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with production targets.
Forecast material requirements based on sales orders, inventory levels, and production plans.
Ensure uninterrupted supply of critical materials to avoid production downtime.
2. Vendor Development & Management
Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers (domestic and international).
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, credit periods, and annual rate contracts.
Conduct vendor performance evaluations based on quality, lead time, and compliance.
3. Cost Optimization
Identify opportunities for cost reduction through strategic sourcing, alternative materials, and volume negotiation.
Benchmark prices regularly with global suppliers (China, Vietnam, Europe).
4. Material Expertise (Solar Industry Specific)
Manage procurement of PV modules' major components including:
Solar cells, EVA, backsheet, glass, frames, J-boxes, busbars, ribbons, sealants, etc.
Maintain updated knowledge of global supply trends, material prices (e.g., polysilicon, wafer, cell markets), and freight variations.
5. Purchase Operations & Compliance
Ensure accurate and timely issuance of purchase orders.
Maintain proper documentation, supplier agreements, and compliance with ISO, BIS, & industry audits.
Work closely with quality, production, finance, and logistics teams.
6. Inventory & Logistics Coordination
Monitor stock levels and ensure optimum inventory without overstocking.
Coordinate import logistics, customs clearance, and freight negotiation.
Minimize delays and optimize supply chain timelines.
7. Team Leadership
Lead and mentor the procurement team.
Set KPIs and ensure performance improvement.
Drive a culture of efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA preferred).
Minimum
7-10 years
of procurement experience, preferably in solar, electronics, or manufacturing.
Strong negotiation, vendor management, and analytical skills.
Knowledge of international procurement, import processes, and supply chain risk management.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Tally Prime).
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
