To develop, monitor, and control project schedules and progress to ensure timely execution and completion. The Senior Planning Engineer plays a key role in integrating planning, cost control, and reporting to support management in decision-making and ensuring optimal project performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Planning & Scheduling
Develop, review, and update the
project baseline program
using
Primavera P6
or equivalent planning software.
Define project work breakdown structure (WBS), activity coding, and resource allocation.
Prepare detailed schedules covering design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
Establish critical paths and milestones for project tracking and control.
Integrate subcontractor and supplier schedules into the overall project plan.
2. Monitoring & Progress Control
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly progress against the baseline schedule.
Analyze deviations, delays, and bottlenecks; propose
corrective and preventive actions
.
Update project schedules to reflect actual progress and forecast completion dates.
Track manpower, equipment, and productivity against planned resources.
Coordinate with site teams to verify actual work progress and prepare progress reports.
3. Cost & Resource Management
Work closely with the Cost Control team to align
schedule and budget
.
Perform
Earned Value Management (EVM)
analysis to measure performance (CPI, SPI).
Forecast resource requirements (manpower, materials, equipment) based on project progress.
Provide inputs for procurement and subcontracting schedules.
4. Reporting & Communication
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly project progress reports to management and clients.
Highlight critical activities, potential risks, and delays with recommended mitigation measures.
Present schedule updates and recovery plans in progress meetings.
Coordinate with design, procurement, and construction teams for timely information flow.
5. Risk & Change Management
Identify schedule risks and maintain a
risk register
with mitigation strategies.
Evaluate impact of variations, scope changes, and claims on the project schedule.
Support in preparation of time extension (EOT) claims with proper documentation and analysis.
6. Quality & Compliance
Ensure all planning and reporting are in compliance with project specifications and company standards.
Support project audits and management reviews by providing accurate schedule data and reports.

Schedule performance index (SPI) and adherence to milestones.
Timely identification and reporting of risks and delays.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in
Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
or related discipline.
Minimum
7-12 years
of relevant experience in planning and scheduling large-scale projects.
Proficiency in
Primavera P6
,
MS Project
, and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
Solid understanding of project management principles (PMI, PMP preferred).
Experience with
EPC / infrastructure / construction / oil & gas
projects.
Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred Certifications:
Primavera P6 Professional Certification
PMP / PSP (AACE)
or equivalent project controls certification
Advanced Excel / Power BI
for dashboard reporting
Work Environment:
Based at project site or head office with periodic site visits.
Coordination with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
