Role Overview

Within the R&D Hardware function, responsible for end-to-end hardware design, development, and validation of electronic products. Combines strong

hands-on hardware engineering ownership

with

market-facing exposure

, supporting new product development and business growth initiatives.

Core Purpose

Drive hardware architecture, detailed design, and release of new products while ensuring cost, quality, reliability, and manufacturability targets are met. Act as a technical bridge between R&D, Operations, Product Management, and customers/channel partners.

Key Responsibilities

New Product Development (End-to-End Ownership)

Define overall product architecture across hardware, firmware, and software. Select and finalize key components, tools, and technologies. Develop block diagrams, signal flow, schematics, BOMs, and part lists. Perform power budget estimation, MTBF and component lifetime calculations. Execute DFMEA, DFM, and DFT activities and ensure closure before release. Support board builds, validation testing, reliability testing, and corrective actions. Prepare hardware for engineering and production release. Provide inputs for product documentation, manuals, demos, and application notes.

Design Governance & Standards

Develop and enforce design guidelines, SOPs, and hardware design standards. Lead and participate in technical design reviews to ensure process adherence and quality compliance.

Project Planning & Execution

Prepare and own project plans for assigned hardware development streams. Track schedule performance, cost vs BOM targets, and permissible design revisions. Monitor SPI (Schedule Performance Index) and ensure on-time documentation and releases.

Project Monitoring & Stakeholder Coordination

Conduct periodic reviews with delivery units and cross-functional teams. Manage budgets, effort tracking, and timesheets. Collaborate closely with Testing, Operations, Warehouse, Logistics, and Product Management.

Customer Support & Issue Resolution

Handle customer complaints and field issues through structured RCA. Drive design corrections and support re-validation and release for testing.

Knowledge & Capability Development

Contribute to organizational knowledge repositories and best practices. Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and process improvements. Support technology roadmap creation and continuous improvement initiatives.

People & Team Leadership

Conduct performance reviews and provide structured technical feedback. Mentor team members and support capability building within the hardware function.

Stakeholder & Market Interaction

Engage with customers, dealers, and channel partners for business development support. Participate in global business forums, trade delegations, and industry bodies for networking and market insight.

Candidate Profile Snapshot

BE/BTech (Electronics / Instrumentation / Telecom / Electrical) with MBA (Marketing). ~10 years of experience in hardware design and development. Strong expertise in schematic design, PCB lifecycle, reliability engineering, and cost optimization. Exposure to customer-facing roles, product management interaction, and market feedback integration. * Ability to balance deep technical ownership with cross-functional and commercial alignment.
