Role Overview
We are seeking experienced Pump Design Expert (Subject Matter Expert - SME) to lead pump design and integration efforts for Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) liquid cooling products. The candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and optimization of pumps tailored for data center and industrial cooling applications.
Key Skillsets 1. Pump Design & Engineering Expertise
- Centrifugal pump design for low- to medium-head liquid cooling or similar applications.
Knowledge of pump selection, sizing, and performance optimization for liquid cooling circuits.
Proficiency in hydraulic design principles: impeller design, volute/diffuser geometry, specific speed, NPSH, cavitation control.
Material selection for wetted parts considering corrosion, erosion, and thermal performance. In depth understanding on Cavitation, corrosion and metallurgical aspect
Understanding of bearing design, sealing mechanisms (mechanical seals, magnetic couplings).
Knowledge of motor-pump integration for variable-speed drives (VFD) and high-efficiency motors.
Thermal-fluid analysis for optimizing flow rates, pressure head, and efficiency.
2. Analysis & Simulation Tools
Proficiency in pump hydraulic performance.
Aware of Structural analysis (FEA) for shaft deflection, stress analysis.
Pump System Curve analysis and integration with CDU distribution network.
Vibration analysis (Modal, Structural, Transportation) and rotor dynamics for minimizing pump noise and mechanical issues.
3. Liquid Cooling System Integration
Understanding of single-phase liquid cooling and CDU system architecture. (Will be added advantage)
Experience with filtering, de-gassing, expansion tanks, flow balancing.
Integration of pumps into a closed-loop liquid cooling system with minimal vibration and noise.
Heat exchanger integration knowledge (plate heat exchangers, brazed plate, or microchannel).
Control systems for pumps: sensors, PID control loops, variable frequency drives.
4. Testing & Validation
Experience in pump performance testing as per ISO 9906 / ANSI HI standards.
NPSH and cavitation testing for data center or industrial cooling.
Reliability testing: endurance, thermal cycling, and seal life.
Development and validation of pump test protocols in a lab or field setup.
5. Manufacturing & Quality
Knowledge of manufacturing methods for pump components (casting, precision machining, balancing).
Familiarity with QA/QC processes for pump production.
Vendor evaluation and qualification for pump manufacturing.
6. Regulatory & Compliance
Compliance with ASHRAE guidelines.
Understanding of safety standards (UL/CE/CSA/VDE) for rotating machinery and electrical integration.
Knowledge of RoHS, REACH compliance for pump assemblies.
Major Responsibilities
Pump Design & Development - Lead selection of high-efficiency pumps tailored for CDU applications; define performance requirements; select pump types and design specifications; work with electrical/control engineers for integrated drive solutions.
System Integration - Ensure pump design integrates seamlessly into CDU with minimum vibration and maximum hydraulic efficiency; optimize pump location and orientation; evaluate thermal performance impact. Integrate VFD with pump and should able understand programming and controller integration aspect.
Performance Analysis - Create and validate pump curves; work with CFD simulations; recommend flow balancing strategies for multi-pump systems.
Testing & Validation - Define testing requirements; conduct field trials; troubleshoot issues; recommend corrective actions. Plan DVT (Design Validation Testing) and troubleshoot issues during testing pump in laboratory.
Vendor Management - Select and evaluate suppliers; review designs and quality; conduct supplier audits.
Technical Leadership - Serve as SME; mentor junior engineers; support R&D and NPDI projects.
Documentation & Compliance - Prepare design documentation, test reports, and manuals; ensure compliance with international standards; support certification processes.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work in a cross-functional, global engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience in piping design.
