Job Overview
Lead the preparation and development of electrical and instrumentation design deliverables, ensuring safe, reliable, and code-compliant plant systems. Responsible for creating detailed design drawings, schematics, and layouts while coordinating closely with process, piping, and mechanical disciplines. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior designers, and support project execution through engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma/B.E. in Electrical or E&I Engineering (or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design, drafting practices, and standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for SLDs, wiring diagrams, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, and instrument indices.
Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, ISA, and IS standards; hazardous area design (ATEX/IECEx/IS) mandatory.
Advantageous: 3D model review tools (Navisworks, SmartPlant Review) and PLC/DCS knowledge.
Experience
8-12 years of relevant experience in E&I design for EPC/EPCM projects in oil & gas, petrochemicals, power, or related industries.
Minimum 3 years in a senior/lead designer capacity with proven multidisciplinary coordination.
Key Accountabilities & Attributes
Prepare and review electrical SLDs, cable routing, and panel layouts.
Develop instrumentation deliverables: loop diagrams, wiring drawings, hook-up details, JB schedules, and cable schedules.
Maintain and update instrument index, I/O lists, and datasheets aligned with process/control requirements.
Ensure compliance with client specifications, project standards, and international codes.
Coordinate with process, piping, civil, and mechanical disciplines for consistent, clash-free designs.
Incorporate revisions, red marks, and as-built documentation into final deliverables.
Support procurement through technical evaluation of vendor documents.
Assist in FAT/SAT, site coordination, and resolution of technical queries during construction/commissioning.
Mentor junior designers, enforce design/drafting standards, and ensure QA/QC compliance.
Strong technical knowledge with a focus on safety and reliability.
Detail-oriented, proactive, and effective in cross-disciplinary coordination.
Demonstrated leadership and commitment to team development and mentoring.
