Job Purpose (Significance of the role & Objectives)
As a senior design engineer in the BIW Closures department, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and professionals focused on the development and implementation of Body in White closure systems. This includes responsibility for the design, analysis, and validation of closure components such as doors, hoods, trunks, and tailgates. The Team Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of projects, meeting quality standards, and achieving project timelines.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and professionals in the BIW Closures department.
Manage and oversee the closure system of the vehicle, including Hood, Door, and Decklid/Tailgate.
Ensure the seamless integration and functionality of closures throughout the entire vehicle life cycle.
Provide support for vehicle programs from design phase to prototype builds, part validation, DVP (Design Verification Plan), BOM (Bill of Materials) management, and release.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of closure system designs.
Evaluate various concepts of hinges, latches, and check arms to achieve the optimal balance of durability, assembly, cost, and weight.
Work closely with stakeholders and attribute owners across different departments such as Vehicle Safety, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), durability, production, interior, and exterior trims.
Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers, fostering creativity and teamwork to integrate multiple systems efficiently.
Coordinate virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities related to closure system designs.
Ensure that designs meet all regulatory, safety, NVH, deflection, and fatigue requirements.
Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of BIW Closures projects.
Develop project timelines and milestones, and ensure adherence to project schedules.
Desired Qualifications: Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
knowledge of closure design for structural components (e.g., Door Panels, Body Side Panel, Axis design)
Proficient in CATIA, & Solidworks.
Proven experience in master sections, packaging, concept creation, and assembly processes of various parts.
Leadership experience with a track record of successfully managing and leading engineering teams.
Familiarity with Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
Should have in-depth Knowledge of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) documentation.
Interact effectively with the CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) team, interpreting results to meet regulatory, safety, NVH, deflection, and fatigue requirements.
Understanding of composite materials and manufacturing processes relevant to closure systems.
In-depth knowledge of automotive industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Experience: 04 - 08 Years.
