Key Responsibilities



Testing & Analysis

Perform chemical testing as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), validated methods, and relevant standards (IS, APHA, ASTM, etc.). Conduct troubleshooting, method optimization, and advanced analytical work when required. Re-test retained samples as directed by the Technical Manager. Ensure safe handling of test items received from customers.
NABL-Specific & Compliance Duties

Reporting

directly to the Technical Manager on day-to-day laboratory activities. Manage the testing department and implement approved testing procedures. Review worksheets prepared by Junior Chemists and ensure completeness and accuracy of all required information. Periodically evaluate test procedures to ensure integrity and quality of testing work. Examine ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements against existing procedures to identify and implement additional SOPs, validate non-standard methods, laboratory-developed methods, and modifications to standard methods. Ensure all testing equipment is under valid calibration and conduct preventive maintenance. Carry out measurement uncertainty calculations for identified parameters at defined intervals. Initiate inter-laboratory comparisons (ILC) and evaluate results; ensure correct PT results are submitted to the Technical Manager. Maintain proper records at all stages of testing and quality control. Ensure stringent compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 systems within the laboratory. Identify training needs related to test items and coordinate training activities. Address and analyze customer complaints by reviewing related records as directed by the Technical Manager. Handle equipment breakdowns promptly and coordinate repairs. Any additional work allocated by the respective manager.
Supervision & Team Development

Guide and mentor junior chemists, analysts, and technicians. Allocate testing tasks and monitor workflow to ensure timely completion. Review and approve test results before submission.
Quality & Safety

Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and safety guidelines for handling hazardous chemicals. Maintain cleanliness and proper chemical/equipment storage in the laboratory.
Qualifications & Skills

Education:

M.Sc. / B.Sc. in Chemistry (Analytical / Environmental / Industrial preferred).

Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years in a chemical/analytical laboratory, preferably in a NABL-accredited environment.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in chemical testing techniques and analytical instrumentation (e.g., ICP, GC, HPLC, UV-Vis). Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements. Ability to validate test methods and troubleshoot equipment issues.

Soft Skills:

Team leadership and mentoring skills. Analytical thinking with strong attention to detail. Good communication and reporting abilities.
