Job Summary



The Special Educator is responsible for planning, delivering and monitoring individualized educational and vocational training programs for children, adolescents or adults with special needs (intellectual disability, autism, learning disability, multiple disabilities, etc.) to help them achieve maximum independence, learning and employability.

Key Responsibilities



1. Assessment & Planning



Assess each beneficiary's abilities, challenges, learning level and support needs.

Prepare Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or training plans with measurable goals.

Review and update plans periodically based on progress.

2. Teaching & Training



Conduct structured and functional teaching sessions (academic, life skills, social skills, vocational skills).

Use special education strategies like:

Activity-based learning

Visual supports

Task analysis

Behavioural reinforcement

Adapt teaching methods based on different disabilities and learning styles.

3. Behaviour & Emotional Support



Support students with behavioural challenges using positive behaviour support strategies.

Promote emotional regulation, social interaction and communication skills.

4. Collaboration



Work closely with:

Caregivers

Therapists (speech, occupational, etc.)

Psychologists

Vocational trainers

Participate in case reviews, parent meetings and multidisciplinary discussions.

5. Parent / Caregiver Guidance



Counsel parents and caregivers on:

Home-based training strategies

Behaviour management

Developmental expectations

Provide regular feedback on student progress.

6. Documentation & Reporting



Maintain accurate records:

Assessments

IEPs

Attendance

Progress reports

Prepare reports for internal review, donors or government authorities when required.

7. Inclusion & Advocacy



Promote inclusive practices within the NGO and external environments (schools, employers, community).

Sensitize peers, staff and stakeholders about disability awareness.

8. Compliance & Ethics



Follow ethical practices, child protection policies, POSH, and disability rights laws (RPwD Act, 2016).

Maintain confidentiality and dignity of all beneficiaries.

Qualifications



Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:

Special Education (B.Ed / M.Ed Special Education)

Rehabilitation Science

RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) registration preferred / mandatory as per norms.

Skills & Competencies



Strong understanding of different disabilities and intervention methods

Patience, empathy and emotional intelligence

Good communication skills (with children, families and professionals)

Ability to design adaptive learning materials

Documentation and reporting skills

Experience



1-5 years

(Experience in NGOs or inclusive education is preferred.)

Work with children/adults with varying levels of disability.

May require physical assistance, flexible hours or field visits.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹21,000.00 per month
