The Sourcing Engineer Trainee will support the sourcing and procurement team in identifying suppliers, collecting quotations, analyzing costs, and ensuring the availability of components used in genset manufacturing. This role is focused on learning, skill development, and supporting standard sourcing activities under supervision.
Key Responsibilities1. Supplier & Market Research
Assist in identifying and researching potential suppliers for genset components such as engines, alternators, controllers, electrical parts, sheet metal parts, and fabrication items.
Support vendor onboarding activities (collect documents, certifications, company profiles).
2. RFQ & Quotation Management
Prepare and send RFQs to approved and potential suppliers.
Collect and compare quotations to prepare basic cost comparison sheets.
Escalate discrepancies or unusual pricing to senior sourcing engineers.
3. Coordination & Follow-Up
Follow up with suppliers for quotations, technical documents, and delivery commitments.
Coordinate with internal teams (Planning, Production, Engineering, Quality) for requirement clarity.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain records of RFQs, quotations, supplier data, and correspondence.
Support the preparation of procurement reports, vendor evaluation sheets, and sourcing trackers.
5. Technical Learning
Understand basic genset components and their specifications.
Learn to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical data sheets.
Participate in supplier visits and audits (training provided).
6. Cost & Quality Support
Assist in cost analysis and benchmarking under guidance.
Support senior engineers in resolving supplier quality or delivery issues.
Required QualificationsEducation
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering field.
Experience
Fresher or up to 1 year of internship/industrial training experience.
Experience in manufacturing or electrical/mechanical components (optional but preferred).
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of mechanical & electrical components.
Good knowledge of MS Excel and documentation.
Ability to learn ERP systems.
Soft Skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong willingness to learn sourcing and procurement processes.
Attention to detail and proactive approach.
Ability to follow instructions and support seniors effectively.
Timely completion of RFQ activities
