The Sono Typist is responsible for accurately typing, formatting, and processing medical reports generated by radiologists/sonographers. This role requires speed, accuracy, attention to detail, and familiarity with medical terminology, particularly related to sonography and radiology.
Key Responsibilities
Transcribe ultrasound and radiology reports dictated by sonographers and radiologists.
Ensure accuracy in spelling, grammar, and medical terminology.
Format reports in line with hospital and departmental standards.
Maintain confidentiality of patient data and reports at all times.
Coordinate with sonographers, radiologists, and administrative staff for report clarifications.
Update and manage patient records in the hospital information system.
Meet turnaround time (TAT) requirements for report completion.
Perform quality checks to minimize errors in reports.
Assist with clerical and administrative tasks in the radiology department as required.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent (Graduate preferred).
Certification or diploma in Medical Transcription / Typing is an advantage.
Typing speed: Minimum 40-50 wpm with high accuracy.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology (radiology/sonography preferred).
Good computer skills (MS Office, Hospital Information Systems).
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Ability to work under pressure and maintain deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Work Environment
Hospital-based; typically within the Radiology/Sonography Department.
Requires working closely with medical professionals.
May involve shift duties depending on hospital policy.
