PURPOSE
You will become a member of the border management's architecture team and provide consulting services to the product and customer delivery teams, helping with guidance throughout the design and development process of our business opportunities. You will also be designing and developing solution architectures to meet business requirements and provide value for money. The ability to be hands-on and support product and project delivery and transition work is important in addition to an architecture and design role.
As Solution Engineer Manager you will have the opportunity to be involved in the end-to-end solution process at both the sales and delivery stages of the customer relationship, translating customer aims and requirements into a new solution with agreement through our governance processes.
Reporting to the Solution Engineer Director at SITA At Borders, you will be part of a team challenging the status quo, designing solutions that employ strong architecture frameworks and using technologies such as AI/Machine Learning, Biometrics Matching and Identity Management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Manager, Customer Solution Engineering, you will work closely with other members of the Engineering team, supporting, and contributing to all aspects of the role, including:

  • Design/coordinate development of standard and complex solutions which may involve multiple parties both internally and externally including the selection of 3rd party vendors to meet customer requirements. Solutions may support government, border management, immigration, customs, or national security customers operating in mission-critical environments.
  • Support account teams or competency centers during the pre-contract phases (qualification proposals and contract) with technical designs and advice. Including support for high-value, long-cycle government procurement processes such as RFIs, RFPs, and competitive dialogue.
  • Provide the technical qualification and own the technical parts of proposals submitted to customers through knowledge of current new or evolving technologies and SITA solution portfolios. Including ownership of technical risk, compliance, and feasibility for large-scale government and border programs.
  • Promote SITA by furnishing customers with comprehensive up-to-date information on current products, product enhancements and new solutions through customer meetings and workshops. Leading technical workshops with senior government and operational stakeholders.
  • Facilitate designs to be efficiently implemented Right the First Time (RFT) and supported operationally. Ensuring solutions are designed for operability, maintainability, and 24/7 support.
  • Collaborate with colleague to gain and share ideas and opportunities. Collaborating across sales, delivery, security, and operations teams.
  • Account for designing solutions for large or complex programs in accordance with business strategies, standards, and processes. Designing national-scale systems with high availability, resilience, and performance requirements.
  • Ensure designs in compliance with Industry standards and architectural plans. Ensuring compliance with international, aviation, and border standards such as ICAO, IATA and ISO.
  • Lead and coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) involved with solution design and subsequent implementation. Acting as solution authority coordinating products, security, infrastructure, and integration SMEs.
  • Work with the architects, development, and products engineering teams within the SITA Government business unit to products successful customer designs. Ensuring alignment with product roadmaps, architectural principles, and security frameworks.
  • Assess the viability and value of new technologies and patterns, working to ensure we align with the business's technical aims for scalability and growth. Evaluating emerging technologies in biometrics, identity management, secure integration, and data platforms.
  • Understanding of system security. Designing secure-by-design solutions including IAM, encryption, network security, and compliance with government security and assurance frameworks.
Qualifications:
ABOUT YOUR SKILLS
  • 6-8 years of experience in Information Technology, Telecom Industry or Air Transport Industry technology in a technical pre-sales role or lead architect role. Experience working with government or public-sector customers is highly desirable.
  • BS level Technical Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering Computer Technologies.
  • Ability to provide technical system solutions, determine overall design direction and provide hardware recommendations for complex technical issues. Including solutions operating in mission-critical and high-availability environments.
  • Experienced in designing, integrating, and managing software solutions. Including large-scale, multi-system integrations and legacy interoperability.
  • Have a background in working in a systems integration industry. Including delivery of systems-of-systems in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Proven track record in producing, communicating and documenting successful technical customer solutions. Including high-level and detailed design documentation (HLD/LLD) for regulated environments.
  • Pre-Sales Business and or Commercial experience is a plus. Including support to government tenders and commercial negotiations.
  • Have a very strong solutions & application architecture background, with a very good understanding how it impacts the other IT disciplines.
  • A willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology.
  • An understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act and GDPR. Including handling of biometric and highly sensitive personal data.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the end-to-end solution.
  • Deliver and ensure quality assurance against the design during the project phases. Including participation in design governance, reviews, and acceptance milestones.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences. Including engagement with senior government and executive stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and good analytical skills.

NICE-TO-HAVE
  • Experience in Aviation and borders industry. Including border management, immigration, customs, or law enforcement solutions.
  • TOGAF certificate
  • ITIL
  • Experience with biometric technologies, cloud or hybrid architectures, international border standards, or security certifications.
