Introduction: The Solution Designer is accountable to Platform Delivery Manager/Senior Solution Designer and would be working on a single complex project, or multiple standard projects. As an application solution Designer, collaborating with Architects, PMs and developers as well as support and Infrastructure teams during and for the Design and development of the software components within the project scope, ensuring quality, timeliness and cost effectiveness in order to support the high performance delivery of change projects.
What will you be doing? Role of Solution Designer function to support design and delivery of change
The role demands involvement in the software development lifecycle from software design through to handover of tested code to the to the deployment team.

Design Leadership
  • Working with developers /Sr. developers working on one or many projects of varying complexity, undertaking the following activities, maintaining overall accountability for the work of the team in terms of quality and timeliness of delivery:
  • Completion of Solution Design work
  • Supporting development team on technical queries, suggestion of solution options and participation on tech meetings
  • Design Issue escalation
  • Validation of plans and progress management
  • Technical review of deliverables

Design Support and Collaboration across Technology Delivery
  • Contributing to the creation of concept/feasibility through collaboration with various stakeholders
  • Advising on, and recommending solutions, based on experience and industry knowledge.
  • Supporting strategic architecture definition and product selection within Risk, Decisions and Collections team

Design for Application Delivery Projects

  • Good hands-on expertise on Open system technologies and tools. Identifying the design tasks which need to be undertaken to successfully deliver the solution, and taking personal responsibility for completing the agreed tasks.
  • Producing high-level design, logical designs in relevant subject area (technical, data, operational etc.) showing for example: processes, objects, data flows, inputs, stored data and outputs. Identifying common components [New Build].
  • Specifying user/system interfaces, including for example: menus, screen dialogues, inputs, reports, validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls, recovery routines and contingency procedures [New Build].
  • Translating logical designs into physical designs taking account of target environment, performance requirements, existing systems and any potential safety-related aspects [New Build].
  • Documenting all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate. Providing guidance to development team members as required.
  • Identifying, owning and resolving design related issues as they arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Supporting the specification of the testing and technical implementation phases of the project, collaborating with other parties as needed.
  • Ensuring that architectures are adhered to by suppliers. And that the projects follow correct design governance principles.
  • Leading and/or participating (where required) in build, test and implementation activity for small or specialised developments where this is deemed to be the most beneficial delivery approach for Application Delivery.
  • Working alone (where required) on moderately complex systems or with colleagues on larger or more complex systems.
  • Maintaining communication with Demand Management and I&SD during the project lifecycle to ensure the end to end integrity of the solution and for the resolution of issues.

Implementation of Architecture Definition

  • Contributing to the definition and documentation of implementation level architectures.
  • Identifying issues with existing implementation level architectures and follows appropriate procedures for resolution.

Delivery Management Support

  • Assisting with the creation, monitoring and reporting of progress against project plans and identifying corrective action where necessary.
  • Providing input into risk analyses and development plans to take account of design decisions.
  • Assisting the delivery manager in both understanding the status of the activities being undertaken by any suppliers to the project, and in identifying delivery progress threats.

  • Requirements analysis involving review and study of existing system and data to assist with details on design of application architecture, environment setup, build relevant data-models & embed configuration controls within services
  • Be prepared to be an active member of an Agile team and assist other areas when required
  • Effectively utilise Data-model to optimize our build quality and time-to-market.
  • Design software to standards and of high quality. Support testing /build team for any data analysis, data-mapping
  • Collaborate with other interfacing teams to ensure successful end-to-end delivery.
  • Will be responsible for Data-Mapping, Data analysis, Assessing and designing data-models for change processes, systems, products and services on a change project
  • Ensure all governance, risk management, controls and compliance requirements are considered during design of requirements
  • Design new business change processes, systems, products and services on a change project. Provide an aggregate high level view of the combined proposed solutions and ensure alignment with the change solution.

Personal & Professional Development
  • Use the Barclays Training portal to accelerate and maintain skills level, particularly the development of professional change skill sets
  • Use the bank standard management, change management toolkit and project management toolkit to plan and deliver change projects
What we’re looking for: Must Have skills:
  • Proven hands-on Business Analysis experience of minimum 3 to 5 years
  • Basic know-how about Technologies and languages like API, RAML, JSON
  • Basic understanding on Data Compliance
  • Basic knowledge about SQL, Oracle DB tools and Excel
  • excellent communication skills, with the ability to talk and present to a range of audiences, sometimes acting as a translator between parties
  • a passion for creating solutions with a positive attitude to change
