The SolidWorks Specialist is responsible for creating, modifying, and analyzing detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings for a variety of mechanical components, assemblies, and products using SolidWorks CAD software. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and production, to ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and meet all functional and quality specifications.
Key Responsibilities
:
3D Modeling and Design:
Develop and maintain accurate 3D solid models, complex assemblies, and detailed parts using SolidWorks.
Create detailed 2D production drawings, including dimensioning, tolerancing (GD&T), and Bill of Materials (BOMs) from 3D models, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI).
Design components and assemblies for various manufacturing processes, such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and injection molding.
Design Analysis and Optimization:
Conduct design validation and analysis, which may include interference checks, stress analysis (using SolidWorks Simulation/FEA), and motion studies.
Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability (DFM), cost, and assembly (DFA).
Documentation and Data Management:
Manage and maintain the CAD data library, ensuring all files and models are organized, version-controlled, and accessible.
Utilize Product Data Management (PDM) systems (like SolidWorks PDM) for workflow, revision control, and documentation.
Prepare and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as required.
Collaboration and Support:
Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise and constructive feedback.
Work with manufacturing and production teams to troubleshoot design-related issues and implement continuous improvements.
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to translate design requirements and concepts into technical specifications and models.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks.
Technical Skills:
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks
(Part, Assembly, and Drawing environments).
Strong knowledge of
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
.
Proficiency in at least one of the following specialized SolidWorks areas:
Sheet Metal Design
Weldments
Surfacing
Mold Tools
Experience with CAD data management/PDM systems.
Familiarity with various manufacturing and prototyping processes (e.g., CNC machining, 3D printing).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
