We are looking for a Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our team and help us to improve the platform that supports one of the best experimentation tools in the world. You will work side by side with other engineers to develop and maintain web services that enable all the products that are part of the experimentation tool at Booking.com. You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way. This will include engineering managers, product managers, engineers and data scientists.

The Team:

The Marketplace mission is to truly understand travelers needs and behaviour across multiple verticals, designs and implement common traveler facing product expereinces, steward travelers to teh right vertical offering, and grow connected trips, where travelers not only book hotels or homes, but also flights, car rentals, rides, and local attractions with us.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Develop and maintain APIs and capabilities for web services that power experimentation products Integrate automated testing and continuous deployment processes Refactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns Solve technical problems to improve our development process, increase our efficiency and unlock new business opportunities Improve existing solutions, challenge decisions, propose augmented alternatives and address technical debt Contribute to technical discussion around software architecture and help the team to make decisions that are agile, incremental and beneficial for the long term

The job requirements

1 to 3 years of software development experience using one or more programming languages. We use Perl, Java, NodeJS (JavaScript) or Python Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent Demonstrable experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL or similar relational databases Strong communication and team collaboration skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong knowledge of Git and branching strategies Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Practical experience with GraphQL and APIs development is a plus Experience working with teams located in different timezones is a plus * Knowledge of experimentation, statistics and A/B testing is a plus
